Asian Health and Service Center Turns 25
The Asian Health and Service Center (AHSC) celebrated 25 years of serving the local Asian community with a fundraiser dinner helt at Legin Restaurant on Oct. 23, 2008. Executive Director Holden Leung, founder and Board chair Dr. Erik Szeto, and Chief Operating Officer Christine Lau welcomed more than 600 community members, state legislators, nonprofit leaders, volunteers and AHSC supporters gathered for the evening.
AHSC uses a multilingual, culturally specific approach to help Asian immigrants adjust to a new culture, access health services, participate in social activities and connect to their cultural heritage. Since opening its doors to serve the Chinese immigrant community in 1983, the center has grown and evolved over the years to adapt to the changing needs throughout the region. Today, the center provides health and wellness activities for seniors, runs a Mandarin immersion preschool, provides mental health supports, plus a plethora of other services and programs for the local Asian community.
