Black Parent Initiative Celebrates Inaugural Fundraiser
The Black Parent Initiative drew a crowd of hundreds at its first fundraiser event held at the Jupiter Hotel on October 2. Community leaders, public school champions, elected officials and business partners joined BPI founders Charles McGee and Johnell Bell at the event.
The Black Parent Initiative is a community-based organization developed to address the significant and longstanding educational and life challenges facing Black students in Portland-area school districts.
The Oct. 2 fundraiser was co-chaired by the Honorable Ted Wheeler, Multnomah County Chair; Larry Miller, Portland Trailblazers; and Rich Brown, Senior Vice President, Bank of America. The event celebrated BPI's successes in its first two years of operation, including the Moses Harris Science Academy at Concordia University.
